A smash cake session is one of the messiest, most joyful shoots we do — and a little preparation makes the difference between a stressful hour and a genuinely fun one. Here's what to sort out before you arrive at our Hawally or Jabriya studio.
A small, single-tier cake (roughly 10–15 cm) works best — anything larger is harder for a one-year-old to actually dig into, and it crowds the frame. Buttercream or whipped cream frosting photographs better than fondant, which tends to crack instead of smear.
We always shoot the clean, before-cake photos first, then move into the smash. Bring a simple onesie or diaper cover for the messy part, and save the outfit you love for the earlier, cleaner shots.
A well-rested, recently-fed baby is a cooperative one. Our Hawally studio opens at 10AM and Jabriya from 9AM — an early morning slot, shortly after breakfast and before naptime, tends to get the best reactions.
This is the part parents worry about most, and it's the one thing you don't need to plan for — our team handles the backdrop and set cleanup after every session.
